The Tuanan Team and orangutan conservation community mourn the loss of our staff member and dear friend, Awan. Awan started as a research assistant working with Dr. Meredith Bastian in 2005 as part of the Sungai Lading Tuanan culture project. After the project ended, Awan joined the Tuanan research team in 2008 and has worked as project staff since. Awan was dedicated to making sure the day-to-day activities in camp always ran smoothly. He was kind, honest, and was always willing to help. He will be remembered for his amazing smile, great sense of humor, and friendship to everyone. The entire Tuanan team is devasted by his passing. We send our condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones as they mourn his loss. Awan leaves behind his wife and son, and his brother Pak Rahmadt, who has also worked at Tuanan since 2004. Awan will be missed dearly. Rest in peace Awan.
