Together with our Universitas Nasional counterparts in Indonesia, CORE Borneo is raising funds for relief for the Village of Paniis. While our fund raising efforts typically focus on the villages surrounding our research station Tuanan, CORE Borneo is helping raise funds for the disaster that recently struck West Java.
In 2016, the people of Paniis welcomed the Rutgers – UNAS study abroad group into their homes for an amazing homestay experience for our students. Paniis village borders Ujung Kulon National Park and is the home to several villagers who work in the national park to protect one of the last remaining populations of the Javan rhinos. We are so sad to hear that the recent Tsunami caused by an eruption of Anak Krakatao has devastated this village and the surrounding villages. Together with the student biology group at UNAS (HIMABIO – himpunan mahasiswa biologi), we are working closely with our friends in the local village to raise funds to bring clean water, food, and supplies to rebuild this wonderful community.
All funds raised from this campaign will be sent to our colleagues in Indonesia to make sure our friends can start to rebuild this very special village. HIMBIO plans to deliver water, food, and building supplies over the next two months to Paniis and surrounding villages. Please consider a small donation – everything helps!
